£100 on-spot fines for dog walkers!

Did you know dog walkers face £100 on-the-spot fines if they don’t carry ‘poop scoop’ bags!

People who fail to pay the fine within a week could be prosecuted in a magistrates’ court, with their fine raising to up to £1,000!

The new rules have been introduced as part of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act passed last year and will be enforced by dog wardens or other council officials, so if you have a dog you may want to tock up on poop scoop bags before you leave the house for a walk!

Dog waste has become a widespread nuisance in parks and beaches and many people aren’t realising that it’s actually a serious health risk, especially to young children!

Frequent offenders can already be fined, but the law’s latest language includes people guilty of “failing to have the means to pick up after [their] dog”. Daventry in Northamptonshire is set to become the first town in the country to adopt the measure, and many other areas are expected to soon follow suit.

Other councils have banned dogs from parks and imposed restrictions at crowded beaches and some local authorities have even installed CCTV to catch out owners who don’t clean up.

Dog lovers have blasted the potential move as “heavy handed” and say responsible owners are already being made to feel like criminals.
