I’m sure we would all love to know how to deal with spam texts

Spam texts are extremely annoying but there is a way to put an end to them…

Did you know sending unsolicited text messages is illegal? I didn’t, I just thought it was annoying.

Six in 10 people told Which? they’d be more likely to report a spam text or nuisance call if they knew who to turn to. 

In 2015 a whopping 90% of Which? survey respondents who owned a mobile phone didn’t know they could report a spam text

 

Make sure you never respond to spam texts as this will just confirm that your number is live. Simply delete the text after following the steps below.

Only reply ‘STOP’ if you know the company that’s sending the message as some companies charge you when you text ‘STOP’. If the company continues to send you unwanted texts you can report it to the ICO.

  • To report spam texts simply forward the message to 7726, it is the same number for all network providers with the exception of Vodafone who use 87726. It is also free of charge to text to both numbers.

By doing this, your network provider can take early action to block numbers that are generating spam on their networks. They can also use this information to inform the regulators which should result in spam texts eventually stopping…
