Sugary Ribena has been axed from Tesco!

Bad news for Ribena lovers! Tesco have announced that they’re going to stop selling the sugary drink due to obesity concerns, and that’s not the worst of it! Capri Sun and added sugar versions of Rubicon.

This is all part of the plan to ensure no added sugar drinks are aimed at children. If your children love Ribena, then cordial bottles will still be available, but lunch box cartons won’t be.

Tesco have also vowed to reduce the sugar content of their own brand soft drinks by 5% each year.

Tesco have said in a statement: “We want to help our customers make healthier choices and that’s why we have pledged to continue to cut sugar from the food and drink on our shelves. From September all the children’s juice drinks we sell will have no added sugar in them because we know it’ll make a positive difference to children’s health.”

It was predicted by the British Medical Association that by 2030 over a third of the population could be obese if action was not taken by the government. They urged the government to put a 20% tax on sugary drinks.

Poor diet apparently costs the government £6 billion a year.
