Tesco issues salmonella alert

Tesco are recalling some of their own brand products over fears that they may have been contaminated with the salmonella bug.

Tesco is now recalling some of its own brand chocolate wafers over fears they may be contaminated with the extremely dangerous bug.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent product recall notice on the ‘Tesco Free From Belgian Chocolate Wafers’ after another product in the same factory tested positive for the stomach bug.

If consumers of the bug are infected by the bacteria, consumers can suffer from diarrhoea, stomach cramps and sometimes vomiting and fever. 

Customers who have bought the wafers are being told not to consume them and to return to Tesco stores for a full refund. Tesco go on to say that this action is a precautionary approach.

A Tesco spokesman said: ‘We have recalled our Tesco Free From Belgian Chocolate Wafer product after a potential Salmonella contamination was discovered at the factory where the product is produced.’
