Debenhams unveil size 16 mannequins
Debenhams in Oxford Street have now unveiled their trial using size 16 mannequins in its windows.
Until now, the store generally used standard size 10 mannequins in window displays, but since they discovered that the majority of women in the UK are either a 14 or 16 they insisted that it was ‘time for a change and to take notice and try something different.’
Debenhams say: ‘With London Fashion Week almost upon us, we’ve been thinking about Mark Fast who caused waves when he sent size 12 and 14 models down his catwalk last season. Gorgeous size 16 model Crystal Renn has also had a huge impact on the fashion industry recently. We are proud to offer a broad and varied choice for women of all ages, shapes and sizes in store. So we thought we should reflect this in our window displays. If it’s popular with customers we would love to roll it out.”
The aim is to eventually roll the size 16 dummies across all 170 of the UK stores. Debenhams has also previously banned airbrushing on their swimwear models and ran a lingerie campaign featuring models over 50.
