Mobile and iPad ban set to hit pupils!
Did you know that two-thirds of schools now use tablets, and one in ten supply them to all of their pupils? Lots of schools even use text messages to remind pupils about homework.
It has now been revealed that school children are going to be banned from taking their electronics into the classroom, and the extended use could be banned too as the Department of Education are looking into the effects it has on pupils’ behaviour.
The Daily Mail has reported: ‘It emerged last night that the Department for Education was launching an inquiry into the effect on pupils’ behaviour of smartphones and tablets. The probe, announced this weekend by Schools Minister Nick Gibb, will look into the effect of technology on pupils’ behaviour amid worries they are accessing porn sites as well as abusing each other online.’
The inquiry comes as teachers have raised concerns that the use of IPads and mobiles may hinder teaching and add to classroom disruption.
Tom Bennett, the Government’s behaviour tsar who is leading the inquiry, told the Daily Mail that there are concerns that some pupils were using the devices to access harmful material such as pornography. Mr Bennett still works as a teacher and says he had lost count of how many times he had confiscated a tabletor mobile in the classroom.
