5 New Years Resolutions that will help you save money!

It’s almost that time again! Time to make a new New Years resolution. As we all know, It’s pretty simple picking a resolution, but actually sticking to them is another story altogether!

If you know deep down that your probably not going to keep up going to the gym three times a week for the rest of the year, then why not commit to something a bit more useful … like money saving?

Here are my top 5 New Years resolutions that will help you save money!

Quitting smoking

I know this one is easier said than done, but if you’re serious about saving money, a 20 a day smoker could save more than £3,000 a year by stopping. That’s not the only advantage, non-smokers also pay £6,309 less for life insurance according to Moneysupermarket.

Debt

It may be unrealistic to make a vague resolution to pay off all of your debt, but I think you’ll be much more successful if you plan to pay off a specific amount off every month over the course of the year.

Cut down on drinking

The average adult spends around £787 a year on alcoholic beverages, which is a big amount of money. Obviously It’s not realistic to cut out alcohol completely for a full year, but even just cutting down to one tipple a week could save you a fortune.

Get into couponing

If there was ever a good time to get into couponing it would be now! My right hand woman Jenny Drew a.k.a The Coupon Detective has just been on the front page of the Daily Star explaining how she bought Christmas for just £4 all thanks to coupons! Have a look at our coupon page for help getting strted.

Get Into Cooking

It may be difficult finding the time to cook hot meals every night, but resorting to takeaways every week can be a real waste of money. Get into the habit of using up leftovers too. The average worker spends £3.69 on their lunch every day which ads up to around £860 a year! By preparing something at home on the morning, or night before could save you a fortune.
