Are you a WhatsApp user? Well here’s some good news.

Last year WhatsApp introduced its users to a 69p a year subscription fee which didn’t go down to well.

Users of the previously free app are automatically charged 69p to keep using it every year, but now the company has announced this process will be scrapped.

The scrapping of the yearly charge has been in discussion for a while but it was thought if they scrapped the charge, the app would surely be filled with adverts instead to make up the costs.

However, the company’s CEO has now confirmed this won’t be the case and instead would test out new tools so we would receive messages and updates from the companies we WANT to hear from.

WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, is currently the most popular messaging app in the world, with more than 900 million users.

WhatsApp CEO says: “Starting this year, we will test tools that allow you to use WhatsApp to communicate with businesses and organisations that you want to hear from.”

“We all get these messages elsewhere today – through text messages and phone calls – so we want to test new tools to make this easier to do on WhatsApp, while still giving you an experience without third-party ads and spam.”
