Ikea recalls thousands of lamps after they cause 224 incidents worldwide
The lamps are falling and slashing customers
The Lock and Hyby glass lampshades have reportedly caused 224 incidents worldwide including 11 injuries and the company is urging customers to return them immediately.
An Ikea spokesperson has said ”We have received reports that Lock and Hyby ceiling lamp shades have fallen. In order to safeguard customers and avoid further incidents we are recalling the products.”
The lamps have domed white frosted glass shades and three plastic clips that attach the shade to the electrical light fitting.
Stores will provide refunds for the items, which were made in China, even if shoppers have not retained a receipt. Simply take the product back to any Ikea store for a full refund.
After having investigated complaints about the lampshades, the Consumer Product Safety Commission ruled: “The plastic retaining clips that secure the glass shades to the lamp housings can break and allow the glass shades to fall, posing a laceration hazard
