Discussing personal matters in front of our TV’s is not something we’ve had to give much thought to … until now.

Thanks to this rather intrusive new feature Samsung have installed into their Smart TV’s, everything we say in front of them will be recorded. The voice activation feature will capture all nearby conversations, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, the TV sets can share the information with Samsung and their third party services.

Samsung’s privacy policy states: ‘Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.’

Samsung released a statement saying: ‘If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature, voice data is provided to a third party during a requested voice command search. At that time, the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV.’

Lots of customers have been left furious as Samsung refused to inform them sooner about the feature.

I can’t believe something so far fethched actually exists … and what will they possibly think of next?
