Poorest families to get energy bills capped.

There is set to be a clampdown on over the odds electricity rates for the poorest families.

Watchdogs are set to announce energy price caps for charges on prepayment meters meaning suppliers won’t be able to charge customers unfair prices for much longer.

The Competition and Markets Authority are set to confirm plans to control how much prepayment meter customers pay.

Currently, four million customers have prepayment gas and electricity meters in their homes, mostly common amongst elderly and hard up families, yet these seem to be the people paying the highest prices which is just ridiculous.

Figures provided to The Mirror by Citizens Advice show the gap between the average prepayment meter tariff and the cheapest deal on the market has grown to £235 a year.
