School day set to be extended to EIGHT hours

The budget will be taking place today and one of the main announcements set to be revealed by George Osbourne later today, is an extension on the school day.

The school day will be extended to 4.30pm under a major education reform. The change means that the Government will be giving head teachers millions in order for them to pay for an additional for five hours a week.

The announcement will firstly take effect on secondary school across the country but will then be rolled in all school’s including Primary within the next few years.

George Osbourne said last night: ‘The Budget I’ll deliver today will put the next generation first.

“And at its heart will be a bold plan to make sure that every child gets the best start in life.

“Now is the time us to make the bold decisions and the big investments that will help the next generation, and that is what my Budget today will do.”

It is thought that this new longer school day will bring many benefits to both students and parents. including keeping children out of trouble on the streets and allowing parents to stay at work longer.
