Police issue public warning about cash machines.

Police are warning members of the public to avoid using Santander cash machines in Lancashire and Cheshire.

Police have reason to believe that these cash machines have been ‘compromised’ which could be potentially dangerous to those trying to draw money out.

The cash machines are thought to have been tampered with by thieves in order to retrieve money from unsuspecting users bank accounts.

Cheshire police tweeted: “[We] have received reports of issues with Santander ATM’s in Wilmslow. Please do not use the machines and call your bank and 101.”

While its Lancashire counterpart also took to the social network to warn: “Security at Santander ATMs in Lancs has been compromised. Advice is not to use them. If you have lost money please contact the bank and 101.”

According to Santander, only five of its cash points have been affected by this fraud, although I wouldn’t be prepared to take any chances. The bank is now urging customers to remain vigilant.

A spokesperson for Santander has said: ‘Customers are always advised to remain vigilant and if concerned about any other ATM machines, they should contact the police immediately and not use them.’
