This school has come up with the BEST idea…

It is going to help parents save a fortune and avoid holiday fines!

Chiddingstone Primary School near Tunbridge Wells in Kent has decided to add 20 minutes onto every school day.

The reason? Because of the longer school days, pupils can take TWO WEEKS holiday during term time which means parents can take advantage of a cheaper holiday.

The way this will work is the school will break up a week a week earlier for the May half term then the October half term will be extended by one week.

Many parents can’t afford to take their family away on holiday during the school holidays as prices are increased massively, so is this a welcome move?

Head teacher Rachel Streatfield said: “We have a very close relationship with our parents and after a long period of consultation we have decided to trial this restructure. We are conscious that parents will be able to benefit by taking their children on holiday when prices might be more affordable, but we also feel the longer half-term holidays will keep the terms short and therefore allow us to teach the curriculum more efficiently. We do not have a problem with our parents taking their children out of school during term time, but we noticed that after last year’s term six, which ran from the children were exhausted. By adding a week to each half-term holiday we can restrict each term to no longer than six weeks. We also feel the slightly lengthier day will benefit the older children who will face longer school days when they transition to secondary school. We are aware that many of our parents work – but so far we have received only positive feedback. We plan to work to the new term structure for 12 months and then conduct a review with our parents and perhaps consider a holiday club during school holidays”

I love this idea and would love my children’s school to do the same.

Do you think it should be rolled out across the country?
