Energy firms are told to refund thousands of customers after metre reading mistake
Regulator Ofgem has ordered Energy companies to refund several thousand gas customers after it was revealed there had been a mistake in some gas meter readings.
Apparently the mistake was made when older imperial meters were mistaken for metric ones, meaning that cubic feet were being counted as cubic meters, leading to thousands of customers over paying for their gas, reports the Financial Times.
The error has affected more than 100,000 people. If you think you could be one of them you should contact your gas provider – but beware, some people may have underpaid if their metric meters were read as imperial ones, so check what kind of meter you have before you do anything else.
