Supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Waitrose and ASDA have withdrawn products from their shelves after the FSA claim 700,000 contaminated eggs have entered Britain.
Four major UK supermarkets have withdrawn the products after 700,000 eggs from Dutch farms involved in a contamination scare were revealed to have been distributed in Britain.
It was first expected that just 21,000 contaminated eggs had reached Britain, but the Food Standards Agency revealed the number to be much higher.
Egg salads from Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda, as well as sandwiches from Waitrose and Morrisons, have been pulled from sale.
The FSA have reassured the public by stating that the eggs are very unlikely to pose a threat to public health.
This contamination scare was revealed on August 1st, when tests discovered the chemical fipronil had found its way into the food chain.
Fipronil can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headaches.
