Over 800,000 holiday makers’ travels are ruined as Monarch, a budget airline, has collapsed.
The airline has ceased trading after “mounting cost pressures and increasingly competitive market conditions” led to the collapse.
The collapse means 300,000 bookings are cancelled, affecting 750,000 passengers. 110,000 customers are currently already overseas.
What to do if you’ve booked with Monarch:
- Customers in the UK who are due to fly today are advised not to go to the airport. All flights have ceased operation.
- The Civil Aviation Authority are set to charter 30+ planes to bring overseas customers back home. This is at no extra expense to the customer, and they needn’t cut their holiday short.
- You may be able to get a refund from your debit or credit card provider. If you’re ATOL protected and booked your holiday through another travel firm, you may be able to claim a refund.
Monarch Chief Executive, Andrew Swaffield, said: “I am sorry that thousands now face a cancelled holiday or trip, possible delays getting home and a huge inconvenience as a result of our failure”.
Glad I’m not flying
