Wickes stores and SMJ Electrical are urgently recalling some remote control plugs as it is feared they may become a fire risk.

The faulty plugs are thought to have the potential to overheat when overloaded, melting the casing of the plugs and becoming a fire hazard, or leaving the interior of the plugs exposed.

The remote control plugs that are thought to be affected are:

Wickes Remote Control Socket and Remote, single and two pack with the codes:

• 190-085
• 190-059

SMJ Electrical Remote control Socket and Remote– Single and three pack with the codes:

• RFE1TC
• RFE3TC
• RFEARC Additional Socket SMJ1/ SMJ2

The plugs have been on sale from 2007.

If you own one of the plugs affected, SMJ Electrical are advising customers to unplug the products and refrain from using them immediately.

The brand is advising customers with effected products to return the plugs to the store of purchase for a full refund.
