Booked your summer holiday already and have just heard that your destination is affected by Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is continuing to spread with people being diagnosed with the sickness now in Thailand, Italy, and Tenerife too.

You like many others may be worried about whether your trip will go ahead or whether you’ll be safe from contamination if you do go away.

So if you’re concerned about your holiday and don’t know what to do, read on…

Check in with the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office)

Your first port of call should be to check the travel advice of the FCO. This will affect what your travel company and insurance can do in regards to possibly giving you a refund or changing your holiday if your destination is affected.

If the FCO advice is not to travel to your destination:

If the FCO advises you not to go on holiday, your travel company is sure to be in touch to discuss what comes next which could include rebooking and changing dates.

If you do want to go against advice and go ahead with your trip, you will be putting yourself at risk and your insurance will no longer be valid if you do need help.

Thus far, the FCO is only advising against all travel to mainland China and Hubei Province.

They’ve also advised only essential travel to Daegu and Cheongdo in South Korea as they have been classed as special care zones.

In regards to Italy, the FCO has advised against all but essential travel to a number of towns in Lombardy including; Codogno, Castiglione d’Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano. There is also one town in Veneto too, Vo’ Euganeo which have also been isolated.

If there’s an outbreak when you’re abroad

If you’re already abroad and there’s an outbreak of Coronavirus, the best thing to do is check in with the FCO and follow the rules and regulations of the local authorities.

You can also check in with World Health Organisation on how to stay protected.

If you want to come home early, you may not be entitled to compensation, but do make sure you check in with your insurance provider to see if you would be covered in the circumstances.
