Britain’s Got Talent Winners, Where Are They Now ?

So This Saturday Britain’s Got Talent will be gracing our screens for the ninth consecutive year since it began way back in 2007! So as we prepare ourselves for all of the weird and wonderful performances heading our way, let’s all refresh our memories of the previous BGT winners. Ever wonder what Series 5 winner Jai McConnell is doing now? No me neither really but we’re about to find out!

Series One Winner – Paul Potts

Paul Potts was a manager at Carphone Warehouse when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2007. He blew the judges away with his rendition of opera song ‘Nessun Dorma’, and went on to win the show! Paul, who had previously been on the brink of bankruptcy, went on to record his album One Chance which topped sales in nine countries. He left the show with £100,000 prize money.

Last year the film ‘One Chance’ starring James Corden was made based on Paul’s life, and he will be touring this year! Potts is definitely a BGT success story.

Series Two Winner – George Sampson

George Sampson won the show in 2008 at the age of just 14! His Singin’ In The Rain rendition won him the adoration of  the Great British public along with £100,000 worth of prize money.

George who is now 19, appeared on stage and in Natwest adverts, but his success was short lived after his debut single peaked at number 30 in the charts causing Mr Cowell to drop him. He’s since had small roles in the shows Waterloo Road and Mount Pleasant.

Series Three Winner – Diversity

SuBo narrowly missed out on the BGT crown when Diversity won the show in 2009. The eight piece gymnastic group have had a steady success rate since winning the show. touring in 2010 and again in 2012 year. On top of a couple of high-profile appearances carrying the Olympic torch and performing for Gordon Brown, leader Ashley Banjo has lent his expertise to the judging panel of Sky1’s Got To Dance and the group made their feature film debut alongsideGeorge Sampson and fellow BGT act Flawless in StreetDance 3D.

Series Four Winner – Spellbound

Gymnastic troupe Spelbound claimed the fourth Britain’s Got Talent title back in 2010. The group went on to become the first act to perform at the 2012 Olympics and appeared twice on the closing ceremony.

The groups line up now only contains four of its original members, and they spend most of their time putting on workshops for school children.

Series Five Winner – Jai McDowall

Possibly the saddest winners story to date, Jai McDowall had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it solo career. When the release of his solo album ‘Believe’ failed to even make even a small dent in the music industry, Simon quietly dropped him from the Syco record label …….. and the rest is a mystery! Where are you Jai?

Series Six Winner – Ashleigh and Pudsey

Fed up with human talent, the Britain’s Got Talent voters of 2012 opted for the dance skills of a dog instead. Since beating classical duo Jonathan and Charlotte to be crowned series six winners, the pair have enjoyed a stint in pantomime and made a string of television appearances, with Ashley judging ITV’s Christmas canine talent show, That Dog Can Dance, while Pudsey starred alongside Hugh Bonneville in Mr Stink. And like fellow BGT champion Paul Potts, their story has attracted the attention of movie-makers, with Simon Cowell producing Pudsey: The Movie, which was released last year.

With their two PETA campaigns and the release of Pudsey’s “autobidography”, the duo’s prosperous post-BGT career is showing no sign of slowing down…

Series Seven Winner – Attraction

Debatably the most original act to win as their shadow theatre stories brought tears to the eyes of the judges whilst the press whipped up a storm about their Hungarian roots. Winning has brought them many admirers and they’ve realised their dreams by starring in an insurance advert.

Series Eight Winner – Collabro

The latest series was won by musical theatre boy band Collabro. The boys have an album on the way and will be going on tour later this year!
