A Fireman Sam Episode Has Been Pulled For Religious Issues

A Fireman Sam episode has been pulled from Channel 5’s streaming site, as it shows a character standing and slipping on a page of the Qur’an.

The episode shows one of the characters carrying a tray of drinks, then the slip on some papers. Whilst the character is falling, you can see some of the pages clearly. One of the pages that can be seen is a page from the Qur’an.

The Qur’an is a religious text of Islam. The page showed in the episode is Surah Mulk (67), verses 13-26.

In the uproar, HIT are no longer working with the animation studio. HIT say that it is their fault that the mistake was made, HIT have also apologised for the mistake.

Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council, tweeted about this incident. He said ‘Have no idea what went through the producers’ minds when they thought this was a good idea #baffled

A HIT Spokeswoman made this statement: “It has been bought to our attention that in an episode of Fireman Sam (Series 9, Episode 7), an image of the Qur’an is briefly depicted.

“The page was intended to show illegible text and we deeply regret this error. We sincerely apologise for any distress or offence it may have caused.

“We will no longer be working with the animation studio responsible for this mistake. In addition, we are taking immediate action to remove this episode from circulation and we are reviewing our content production procedures to ensure this never happens again.

“Again, we apologise unreservedly to our viewers.”

The episode was first aired in October 2014 and has gone unnoticed until now. You were also able to watch the show online, using channel 5’s streaming site. The episode was removed from the site on Tuesday. They have no plans to show the episode again.
