Asda driver reveals filthy delivery vans

This is not what you want to see if you have your grocery shopping delivered from Asda

A driver who is employed by supermarket giant Asda has revealed the dirty conditions found in their vans.

The employee, who would like to remain anonymous, told Mirror Online: “The hygiene of the vans, they are disgusting. The smell – they only get washed once a year. I have worked there since last year as a driver and I have never seen the vans being washed. There is mold in the back where the food is being transported to the customers. The green trays that the shopping is delivered in – pigeons fly in the warehouse and poo in the trays. They are never washed and we have to deliver in the trays.”

The driver then hit out at the company’s treatment of staff, saying: “The drivers don’t get breaks but they still deduct an hour’s lunch from us. One Saturday I started at 7am and finished at 9pm, doing 14 hours of driving – sometimes going up 4 flights of stairs with heavy trays – all with no break and they expect all this for minimum wage.”

The Mirror online asked Asda for a comment. A spokesperson said: “At Asda we pride ourselves on being able to offer a first class grocery home shopping service, which includes maintaining the highest hygiene standards. We’re disappointed that on this occasion it seems we haven’t met our own high standards and would like the opportunity to investigate further if you would share the location details of this particular van.”

They continued: At Asda we pride ourselves on being able to offer a first class grocery home shopping service, and for the 17 million who shop online with us each year we do just that. However, we take any concerns raised about our service seriously, which is why we are incredibly disappointed to read these allegations and would be grateful if the Mirror would share the relevant details to allow us to look into these specific claims as quickly as possible. While we are limited in the action we are able to take without receiving further information, we would like to reassure our customers that Asda is committed to maintaining the highest standards for both our customers and colleagues and will investigate the general concerns raised within these allegations.”
