Biscuit shortage in the UK

Did you know their is a biscuit shortage in the UK?!

No me neither until this weekend!

United Biscuits – who manufacture products under McVitie’s, Jacob’s and Crawford’s –  were forced to close its Carlisle factory after the floods a few month ago.

The factory closed on 5th December 2015 due to damage to electrical equipment and ovens.

So until the United Biscuits factory is fully up and running again, 2 cargo planes were flown into Robin Hood airport filled with biscuits to keep our cravings at bay.

Dayle Hauxwell, cargo manager for the airport told Doncaster Free Press: “There has been a lot of press coverage about Britain’s biscuit shortage following the floods in December and we are pleased to hear that the factories hope to be up and running again this month. In the mean time we’ve been delighted to welcome two flights from Emirates full of the nation’s favourite biscuits”

Lets hope United Biscuits is back up and running again soon, however, a biscuit shortage would probably do my waistline some good…
