Car myths that could be costing you a fortune
Running a car can be extremely pricey, even if we do take all the necessary actions to try and keep our car insurance down to an absolute minimum. But believe it most of us are wasting £100’s every year on these common car myths. I know I am guilty of most of them but experts have revealed that these common car rules are extremely outdated and the only thing we are doing by practicing them now is wasting money.

Warming up your engine before you drive.
The first common myth is that we have to warm up our engines before we start driving on cold snowy days. This is a misconception. As long as you’re not flooring it everywhere you go, you can get going more or less as soon as you start it up with no danger of ruining the engine or anything like that.
You should take your car to a mechanic to be winterized.
Once the cold weather hits, lots of garages and mechanics will try and entise you in with deals for them to ‘winterize’ your car for you. Especially targetting women who are likely to take their word for it. This includes changes your fluids to cold-wether-resistant ones. However, this is completely unnecessary.
Nowadays oil fuctions just as well in the winter as it does in the summer meaning no special adjustments need to be made.
Change your oil every 3,000 miles.
Have you ever been told that you can maximize your engine’s life by changing the oil every 3,000 miles? Well this an old rule of thumb from the 70’s, but now the life in our oil has increased far beyond the 3,000 mile barrier so we don’t need to take any notice of this. Synthetic oils are now available even lasting 15,000 miles.
For most cars built in the last decade or so, that’s around 7,500 miles, but could be as high as 20,000.
