NHS warning to pregnant women over cheese recalls.

Have you seen the recent cheese recalls which I’ve been posting throughout the week? Well major Supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Asda and the Co-Operative have been forced to pull a number of different cheese products from their shelves due to the presence of listeria.

The recalls include ASDA Extra Special Camembert de Pays and The Co-Operative Truly Irresistible Camembert.

The affected cheese could also be potentially dangerous for young children, people over 60, and those with lowered immune systems.

The NHS website says to avoid the cheese because: “Although infection with listeria (listeriosis) is rare, it is important to take special precautions in pregnancy, because even a mild form of the illness in a pregnant woman can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or severe illness in a newborn baby.”

The NHS website goes on to advise pregnant women not to eat mould-ripened soft cheese (cheeses with a white rind) such as brie and camembert.

For those who think they may have bought affected cheeses, please return to the store for a full refund.
