Dad arrested after confiscating daughters iPhone
I find this crazy!
I understand this isn’t money saving and yes it happened in America, however, I would love to know whether you think the mother had a point? I find the whole situation a little crazy!
Ronald Jackson his 12-year-old daughters phone and refused to return it after he discovered an inappropriate text message.
The girl complained to her mother who is Ronald’s ex-wife – Michelle Steppe, she then reported the ‘theft’ to police.
Just hours later, cops arrived and arrested Ronald!
Ronald, from Dallas, posted £1,000 bail to get out of jail, but was later sent a fine for theft.
He refused to pay, opting to go to court and successfully fight the citation involving his now 15-year-old daughter.
This week a judge found Jackson not guilty after the two-day trial, citing insufficient evidence.
Explaining his decision to fight the charges, Jackson said: “I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right. You tell them what they did wrong and you give them a punishment to show that they shouldn’t be doing that. I don’t want the police department telling me how to parent my child. It made no sense to me for them to show up and make a big deal out of something that was a small thing.”
The girl’s mother, Michelle, still insists she did the right thing by calling the police on ex-husband.
She said: “As a mum, I’m upset because — number one — the property belongs to me. Even if you purchase something with your own money and have a receipt, it’s not yours. Someone can take it from you.”
Jackson doesn’t believe the relationship with his daughter and her mother will recover.
“I have to separate myself from them,” he said. “I can’t ever have a relationship with them again.”
Such a waste of police n legal resources. As a parent, I feel that a child has to have respect for their parents and cannot be allowed to play one off against the other. Removing a child’s phone due to seeing inappropriate material must always be seen as being within the best interests of the child. The money wasted in police, courts and legal fees could have been better used having a counsellor sit down and discuss the incident with all parties involved.
