Find out if your Harry Potter book is one worth £28,000

I bet the majority of you have old Harry Potter books stored away somewhere forgotten about? Well you might want to go and hunt them out after reading this!

A bibliographer has now released a book stating the values of the Harry Potter books now. And I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The original books often appear in auction and sell for thousands of pounds. Those with misprints or illustrations can even go for a whopping £28,000!

So how can you tell if yours is one of the lucky ones? Well it will need to be a hard back copy with first edition printings from 1997. There were only 500 published and 300 were put in libraries so your chances may be slim, but somebody has to have them.

The series of numbers on the copyright page must read 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1.

Even paper back copies still go for a couple of thousand so definitely still worth double checking those digits.

Deluxe editions, which were released later from 1999, are now worth anything between £320 to £1,800 so as you can see there will be lots of winners thanks to this revelation.

And It’s not just the Philosophers Stone that is raking it in for Harry Potter fans, the second and third books can also bag you a couple of thousand if you have the right edition. First editions of the chamber of secrets can sell for up to £6,000 and first editions of the Prisoner of Azkaban can sell for anything from £1,500 to £8,000.

If your copy has the number line of 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 and has wrongly printed text on page 7 then you are in the money.
