Foreign Office Advice On Travelling To Turkey
Yesterday we heard of the horrible attack in Turkey, and with the country being an extremely popular holiday destination for millions of Brits every year, lots of people have been left wondering what they should do if they have a holiday booked there over the Summer.
The Foreign Office regularly updates its travel advice following incidents such as yesterday’s. Around 41 million tourists visit Turkey every year, around 2.5 million of them British and the overwhelming majority of these return back unscathed and most visits are completely trouble free.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice against all travel to within 10km of the border with Syria.
The FCO advise against all but essential travel to:
- the remaining areas of Sirnak, Mardin, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Kilis and Hatay provinces
- Siirt, Tunceli and Hakkari provinces.
The attack took place in Suruc was no doubt horrific, but the expert view is that there shouldn’t be a problem if you stay out of dangerous areas. No tourists were injured in the attack.
