The confectionary company Mars have recalled a selection of their chocolatey treats over fears they may contain the dangerous bacteria.

Affected chocolate bars in the UK and Ireland have best before dates in May 2018. Galaxy Milk 200g bars, Galaxy Milk 24g bars and multipacks, Galaxy Counters 78g treat bags and 112g pouches and Maltesers Teasers 35g are the only Mars products at risk.

Mars said: “Through our routine testing, we have detected the potential presence of salmonella from the ingredients used to make our chocolate.

“As a precaution, we are voluntarily recalling certain Galaxy Smooth Milk chocolate bars, Galaxy Minstrels, Galaxy Counters and Teasers bars.

“If you have one of the products listed above, you should not eat it. Please keep the product and contact our consumer care team to arrange return and reimbursement.

“This precautionary recall has been initiated with the best interests of our consumers at heart and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience called.”

How to tell if you have one of the products affected:

Firstly, check that your item has a best before date in May 2018. Secondly, make sure you have either a Galaxy Milk 200g bar, Galaxy Milk 24g bar or multipack, Galaxy Counters 78g treat bag or 112g pouch or a Maltesers Teasers 35g bar. Remember, those are the only Mars products affected. If you have any other Mars product with a best before date of May 2018, whether it be a Milky Way, Galaxy Caramel, Snickers or something else yummy, it’s totally fine to eat!
