You can find them in Nottingham and Newcastle – this is based on our visit to the new Newcastle branch.

My family and I were invited along to try out the menu before anyone else and we were very excited about this!

George’s Great British Kitchen isn’t open just yet so we were one of the first to visit the restaurant which is a real honour.

I headed along with my husband Aaron, my 3 children, my Mam and 2 brothers.

When we arrived we were shown to out table which was actually a lovely booth decked out as a beach hut! Each beach hut has a different name relating to a near by seaside location – we were sat in Seahouses.

Our server, Matt, handed us our menus which were actually newspapers – I love this little touch!

We opted to go straight for mains and my youngest two ordered from the kids menu which is a great price at only £5.95 and includes a drink.

Their meals come in a bucket with a spade which they absolutely loved – they were so pleased when Matt told them they were also allowed to take the bucket and spade home too!

The eldest child ordered the cod dog which is a crispy battered giant cod finger in a finger brioche bun with a layer of mushy peas and topped with chunky tartare sauce.! He opted for sweet potato fries rather than your usual fries.  He said it was delicious and the tartar sauce was lovely too.

Aaron opted for the proper dirty burger double – Two burger patties made to a recipe using the finest chuck and brisket, grilled in the Inka and topped with red Leicester. Served in a brioche bun with baby leaf salad, a slice of tomato, thin slices of pickled gherkin, lashings of dirty mayonnaise and tomato ketchup on the side.

I opted for the basket of chicken which was butterflied chicken breast in a light lemon pepper breadcrumb coating, served with maple grilled smoked bacon, sweetcorn pancakes, campfire slaw, twice cooked chips and a spicy chipotle mayo dip. This was one of the nicest meals I have ever had!

Now for the unbelievably exciting bit… No, seriously, are you ready for this?

The desserts.

Out of this world.

The famous dessert sharer – Ice cream with Chantilly cream, sprinkles, raspberry sauce and chocolate flakes, doughnuts, dipping sauces and candy floss. This is also a mini version of this for the children.

This is easily the nicest candy floss I have ever had, we opted for banoffee flavoured ice cream which was so delicious.

I can’t recommend this place enough, it is one of the best restaurant openings in Newcastle for years and I will be a regular in there from now on. The service was excellent too, Matt was wonderful and so helpful, nothing was too much for him and he was a real hit with our children too. Come next summer if anyone needs a bucket and spade come and see me, I think we will have quite a collection built up soon…
