Greggs Are Going Vegan?

Following the success of the vegan sausage roll Greggs are expanding their menu!

Vegans across the UK can now rejoice as Greggs moves to provide more vegan options for customers.

If you’re looking for a cheap and time friendly lunch option, Greggs is the best high street bakery option – just nip in, grab a cheeky sausage roll or a steak bake, and off you go.

The budget bakers are diversifying into a vegan menu, in an effort to change the perception of Greggs from “an old-fashioned bakery from the north” to a “modern food-on-the-go brand”.

It looks like the next Greggs option to go vegan might be a doughnut, but we haven’t had that confirmed as of yet. Greggs are also looking at alternatives for the rest of the Greggs menu being developed for vegans.

Greggs vegan menu was announced by the CEO Roger Whiteside in a radio interview on LBC, where he said:

“We are working away to see if we can come up with a version of all our bestselling lines because people want vegan options…If we can produce something that tastes just as good as the meat version, then that will sell very successfully. That’s what’s been shown with the vegan sausage roll.”

In the interview, Roger Whiteside also hinted at an amazing new vegan treat. When asked about what would be next on the vegan menu, he responded:

“That would be giving away everything to our competitors…But I will say we are plugging away at seeing if we can come up with a vegan version of all our top-selling lines.”

I can’t really imagine what a vegan steak bake would taste like, but I think I’d definitely give it a try. More options on a menu are never a bad thing, and lots of the vegan items are supposedly healthier than their meaty counterparts. I do love a chicken bake and don’t think I’ll be going vegan any time soon, but I’m still excited to have a try. You never know, do you?
