How To Get £142 Worth Of Air Passenger Tax Back
As of March, flights will become much cheaper as air passenger tax is axed from flight costs.
The cut will apply for anyone who’s travelling under the age of 16 and a reasonable saving of £71 can be made on long haul flights for children, and £13 for short-haul.
Not to worry though, if you have already booked your flights for after March, you can claim for a rebate and I’d definitely recommend doing so, so that you won’t be left out of pocket and you could end up with a few extra pennies to spend on your holiday!
The tax was removed for under 12’s in May and now it is being scrapped for under 16’s too.
Receiving your rebate is extremely straight forward, if you have booked your flights through British Airways, Thomson, First Choice, Virgin Atlantic or American Airlines then these airlines are offering passengers automatic refunds, although all the information will be available on the airline’s websites.
If you have booked through different airlines then they will be expecting you to ring up and enquire yourself. They may not prompt you because they’ll have their mind on keeping unclaimed money for themselves so make sure you don’t put it to the back of your mind.
If you have booked a package holiday, you can still get your rebate, instead of asking the airline for it though, you will need to go to the holiday company you booked your holiday through, they will be able to refund you, but again they may not do it automatically you will need to get onto them.
The tax axe means that a family of four would save £26 on flights to Europe and £142 on a flight to the US so well worth looking into if you haven’t already enquired about what you could be owed.
