Instant refunds for rail delays to be introduced!

ITV News has just reported that that a train firm will trial ‘instant’ refunds paid direct into passengers’ bank accounts or travel cards. If this is a success then the Governments aim is to see this rolled out across the whole rail system.

Passengers will be entitled to compensation for cancelations or delays even of just minutes and the money would be returned electronically. This means we wouldn’t repayment forms.

ITV News reports: ‘The measure, which rail minister Clare Perry has said she hopes to see introduced across the country, will initially be trialled on some c2c services from next year using “smart ticketing” systems, similar to the Oyster card service used on London Underground. Rail fares have risen nearly three times faster than wages over the past five years, leaving commuters “seriously out of pocket”, according to a new report.’

According to Network Rail figures, one in ten rails were delayed in July. Most train companies will already give you some compensation if your train is delayed by half an hour or so, but now it will be much more simple for you to recieve it.

If your train is delayed or cancelled and you decide not to travel, you can claim a full refund by returning the unused ticket at that time to any ticket office or by post to the train company.
