How a mother avoided paying for her child on flight

I can’t believe anyone would actually do this…

A woman was caught when she tried to hide a baby in her hand luggage on an Air France flight from Istanbul to Paris.

A very shocked passenger said she spotted something moving inside the woman’s cloth bag half way through the flight from Ataturk Airport to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle on Monday evening.

The passenger alerted staff about the situation and the woman and baby were moved to the front of the plane until police arrived.

Air France confirmed the incident and that the baby was travelling without a ticket. Air France are currently investigating.

The child is believed to have been about 1 or 2 years old, however, according to Air France website young children are entitled to reduced or even free flights.

From Air France;

When your child travels with you, you may be eligible for a reduction on your child’s ticket if the chosen fare allows it. This reduction can be up to:

  • 15% on short-haul flights,
  • 33% on medium- and long-haul flights.

If your child is under 2 years of age:

  • he or she can travel on your lap at no extra charge on flights within metropolitan France, or at a reduced fare on international flights,
  • you can also reserve a seat for your infant and benefit from the fare reduction listed above
