MP’s dodging expenses are forced to pay money back!

Twenty-six MP’s have failed to pay their expenses and have been named and shamed by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. Cameron has now called for them to settle their debts.

ITV reports: ‘A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “The Prime Minister’s view is that he expects any ministers who owe money to pay it back. I think a number of ministers are intending to do so.”

‘According to the Commons watchdog some MPs had expense debts of up £500 written off last year after failing to pay up and included in the list were Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood – who recently wrote the watchdog a letter backing a 10% MP pay rise because he was ‘watching the pennies’ and Children’s minister Edward Timpson.’

Expenses that were claimed for but were “not allowable under IPSA rules” or which had “insufficient evidence to support the claim” included the submission of receipts for London hotel stays, food and drink spending, rail cards and constituency phone bills.
