Mum of three losing her sight due to her Red Bull addiction.

It’s no secret that too many sugary drinks can have a negative effect on our bodies, but one young mother of three is risking losing her sight thanks to her addiction to Red Bull.

26-year-old Lena Lupari who spends £450 a month on Red Bull, has found out that her brain is starting to swell from the excessive sugar intake.

Lena told the Mail Online: ‘I’d been suffering from migraines and headaches for about five years but I just ignored them and took painkillers. Then my vision went and I couldn’t even lift my head off the bed and I ended up in hospital for six days.’

Shortly after this incident doctors discovered that Lena was suffering from a condition called Idiopathic interacranial hypertension brought on by the weight gain from the fizzy drinks. Lena was consuming nearly 3,000 calories from the drinks.

The swelling on her brain put pressure on the optic nerves which has affected Lena’s sight.

A 250ml can of Red Bull contains 80mg of caffeine, which raises the heart rate and patients with high blood pressure or coronary heart disease and hypertension are advised to avoid it.

Medics have told Lena that she has to lose 7 stone before her symptoms will subside, although she has now completely cut Red Bull out of her diet. She was drinking 28 cans a day until now!

Ms Lupari says that while she doesn’t want a gastric band fitted, she believes the NHS should help to ‘motivate’ her by sending her to ‘something like a boot camp’.
