My top tips for saving money when you are skint.

Saving money is easier said than done. If you have your sights set on something that requires you to save money for a long period of time, such as a house or a holiday, then it can be a shock to the system. Especially if you always end up being completely skint by the end of the month, It’s hard to figure out where to start.

I’ve decided to write a quick guide to help you get well on your way with your savings so that once the end of the month creeps up on you, your bank balance won’t be quite as depressing.

Make a budget

If you’re completely skint then the thought of saving a large amount will probably sound quite daunting. Therefore It’s important that you set yourself realistic goals. As long as you get yourself into the habit of saving just a little bit each month, the chances are you will save more in the long run. Work out what your essential outgoings are for the month and from there find out how much you will have left and how much you can expect to save from that.

Cut out the extras

If you’re wanting to save then you will need to cut your costs right down, there’s no two ways about it. This means cutting out any extras. You may think there’s nothing you can cut out at first, but have a long hard think because there’s always something! Even small changes like switching to supermarkets own brand products would make a difference. Take a look at your monthly bills. For example, could you cut out the sky?

Pay your savings account

Treat your savings account as another compulsory bill. Get used to putting money in there when you get paid every month.

Eat at home

Grabbing lunch on the go may be the easy option ….. but it is not so easy on your bank balance.According to Living on A Dime, eating out is a common way people get into personal debt. Making food at home the night before work is a great way of saving money fast. If you’re worried this will be too time-consuming then try cooking several over the weekend and freezing them so all you have to do is take them out to defrost the night before.
