Bargain discount store Aldi are promptly pulling thousands of packets of frozen vegetables from their shelves after a customer complained saying half a rat was found in her pack.

After the rodent was found in a pack of vegetables bought from a Cornwall store, the supermarket have withdrawn the product from shelves and are recalling 38,000 bags of the product.

The customer, Grandmother, Pat Bateman, 60, told newspaper The Sun: “We had eaten almost all of the bag before we saw it, and what’s even worse, I fed it to my youngest granddaughter.”

She continued: “It was nearly empty so that’s why I spotted something that looked out of place at the bottom of the bag. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I pulled it out. It just looked like half a rat. It had fur on it.”

After initially returning to her local branch with the complaint, Mrs Bateman was offered £30 off her next shop and was issued an apology from the manager.

She didn’t feel like the complaint was taken seriously enough and so she contacted Head Office.

Mrs Bateman has since been offered compensation of £500 but has not accepted it as she doesn’t believe it is enough.

She told the Sun: “It’s a wonder none of us ended up physically ill.”

Unfortunately Mrs Bateman wasn’t alone as it has also been reported that three more complaints were made concerning rodents being discovered in the same batch of veg.

One complaint was from another customer, and two more came from Environmental Health. There was reportedly also complaints about mouse parts being found in the same pack of veg back in February last year.

The packs of vegetables were produced by company Agrifreez in Belgium and inspectors concluded that the factory was in fact not infested.

All frozen vegetable products made by the Agrifreez brand have been removed from sale and an investigation has been launched.
