No wonder we all want to save money on children’s clothing!
I have never been a fan of designer clothing for children – with my first child, I bought a designer outfit which he wore once and it didn’t fit him 2 weeks later when I went to put it on him again. That was the biggest waste of £60 I ever spent and I well and truly learnt my lesson!
Now I opt for more high street brands such as F&F, Tu, George etc

But my favourites have to be La Redoute and H&M
I’m not a big fan of Primark as I’ve noticed their items don’t wash very well – plus you can get better value for money at H&M.
With H&M you can get their basics range for only a couple of pound each PLUS they are on a permanent 3 for 2 offer and you can mix and match against T-shirts, leggings, jogging bottoms, trousers, jackets plus many more.
La Redoute is fantastic value and the quality is fantastic. If you were to buy their items when they are full price, they are a little pricey – however, they have the BEST sales. Just before Christmas they had an up to 50% off sale on plus there was a voucher code for 50% off your total spend. I ended up getting over £150 worth of clothing for less than £25 and my 3 children are now kitted out for the next few month – result!
If you do order from La Redoute, I advise buying a size bigger than you usually would and the clothing is a bit smaller than other stores.
Picking up the basics in supermarkets with clothing sections are great value for money – you can often pick up underwear for less than £1.
Tu at Sainsburys have fantastic clothing events. A number of times through the year they will do 25% off the whole Tu range, it has been known to happen while their sale is on too. So if something is already discounted by 50% you will get an extra 25% off at the checkout.
George at Asda offer a 100 day guarantee on their clothing ”If for any reason you are not satisfied with your George Clothing
or George Home product, simply return it within 100 days with proof of purchase for an exchange or refund. George branded products only.”
Higher end stores such as BHS, John Lewis etc, they always hold fantastic sales and you can get some fantastic bargains in these stores.
If you do choose to buy designer clothes, try and keep them in good condition (easier said than done with children’s clothing) and you could sell it on ebay or a similar web site when your child has outgrown it, you may just make some of the money back.
You may also be able to pick up some bargain clothing on ebay, some of it may even be brand new! For new clothing, look out for the following…
- BNWT – Brand new with tags
- BNWOT – Brand new without tags
Shop at outlet stores, you can often pick up some great items at a fraction of their cost .
Also shopping in charity shops is a good place to pick up a bargain. I donate most of my children’s old clothes to charity shops, apart from their school uniforms which I send to their school for spares.
