The old-style round pound disappeared as a valid tender on the 15th October but it’s said there’s still millions of pounds worth still lying around. Still finding lots of the old tender in the house, car and piggy banks? These relaxed retailers will help you to spend them!

The deadline for spending your old £1 coins was midnight on Sunday, but it is said that certain retailers will still accept your old coins so you don’t lose out.

Retailers John Lewis and Waitrose have announced that they will accept the round coins until Saturday. The stores said that although their trolleys and systems are set up for the new look £1, they will help out customers who have no alternative way of paying. They will be accepting the old version until the 22nd October.

If your child has been saving up their pocket money and has lots of old old coins in their piggy bank, toy store The Entertainer is said to be accepting the old tender up until the end of the year. So the kids will still be able to spend their savings on that amazing toy they wanted!

Supermarkets Aldi and Iceland will keep accepting the coin until the 31st October along with popular high street store Poundland. Tesco will continue to accept customers old pound coins for one extra week after Sunday’s 15th October deadline.

Love a Gregg’s breakfast on a morning? The bakery has said that they will still accept the tender but has not yet announced their cut off date.

You will still however be able to trade your old style £1 coins after the 15th October in banks, building societies and post offices. If you are offered old coins as change in stores you don’t have to accept them and can request a new coin instead so they’re more easily spent.
