Store refund policies on Christmas gifts!

I’m sure pretty much all of you will have received at least one gift this Christmas that isn’t quite to your taste for whatever reason.

You might assume It’s easy enough to just go to the store and return it, however that isn’t always the case as policies often change over the Christmas period.

As a general rule of thumb, most stores allow a 28 day returns policy on goods, which is usually extended over Christmas.

Your Rights

Some of the bigger named brands such as Selfridges however, stop taking returns as early as January 4th. This stops them from losing out on too much money so It’s always worth double checking.

By law, retailers don’t have to offer their customers a refund unless the goods that have been sold are faulty, stores do do it as a goodwill gesture however.

Faulty Products

So what happens if a product you have bought or been given has a fault or becomes faulty? Under the Consumer Rights Act you have an early right to reject goods that are unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described and get a full refund. You only have the right to do this 30 days from the date of purchase however.

You could also ask the retailer to repair or replace your item within six months of purchase.
