If you were due to travel yesterday but Storm Ciara disrupted your travel plans, you may be due a refund!

Storm Ciara wrecked havoc with the UK’s travel systems yesterday, with both car, rail, and plane services delayed or even cancelled.

Were you, or someone you know affected by these disruptions? If so, you may be due a refund or compensation from your original travel provider.

We’ve done the legwork for you, and compiled a one-stop shop of all the biggest rail services’ policies regarding disruption to services due to Storm Ciara. Take a look below to find out what you may be due, and how to claim!

Travelling by train

Trainline

Trainline have issued a statement about Storm Ciara “causing significant disruption across most routes”. If customers who purchased their train tickets through Ticketline have been unable to travel due to inclement weather, they are advised to contact Trainline to receive a refund.

CrossCountry

Due to damage to train tracks caused by the storm on the 9th February, CrossCountry have said “some routes are subject to disruption”. Customers with tickets dated for Sunday 09 February may travel on any CrossCountry service today. If you’ve been entirely unable to travel, you can apply for a full refund for your unused tickets from your point of purchase, without an administration charge. CrossCountry Customers travelling today who are subsequently delayed by 30 mins or more may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation.

LNER

LNER are operating a reduced timetable and speed restrictions on their East Coast Mainline services. The rail provider has stated that all tickets dated Sunday 09 February are valid for travel today, on services closest to the originally booked time. If you choose not to travel with LNER today, or are delayed more than 30 mins, you will be entitled to a refund by the company.

Transpennine Express

Transpennine Express are still reporting high levels of disruption on tracks today, and are advising their passengers not to travel unless necessary. If you decided not to travel yesterday, you are entitled to a full refund of your ticket from the original point of purchase. If you postponed your original travel plans from yesterday, you can use your Transpennine Express ticket on services today.
