What is the Sure Start Maternity Grant?
If you’re pregnant you could get £500 from the Government to help with the costs of having a baby. You won’t have to pay it back!
Sure Start Maternity Grant – How much do I get?
If you are expecting your first child, you could be eligible to receive a one-off payment of £500.
If you already have children under the age of 16, you can only get the grant if you are having twins (£500) or triplets (£1,000). You could also get £500 if you’ve already had twins.
Am I eligible for the Sure Start Maternity Grant?
You will be eligible for the Sure Start Maternity Grant if it is your first child and you or your partner receive one of these benefits:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
- Working Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
- Universal Credit
You may also be able to get the grant if it is not your first born, but you are having twins or triplets.
