Staying healthy whilst sticking to a budget can be a difficult task. One of the biggest challenges we all face when we’re trying to stick to a healthy diet is keeping the cost of our big shop down! Fresh meat, fruit, veg and organic foods don’t come cheap, making it extremely easy for us to fall off the bandwagon once we see the effects it’s having on our bank balances! Stocking up on ready meals and snacks whilst they’re on offer may seem like the easiest option, but don’t cave in just yet! Eating healthier doesn’t always mean your weekly shop has to break the bank! Sometimes making a few slight changes can cut your cost considerably. For example, try swapping fresh salmon for canned salmon for a cheaper, yet still a healthy alternative, or fresh berries for frozen berries.

 2. Plan Ahead! 

Create a menu plan for the week ahead and write your shopping list to accommodate this. Also take into account how you plan on using your leftovers. Spending some time pre planning your meals for the week ahead could be a great way to help you avoid overbuying and over eating.

If it’s the latter, then you’re most likely going to want to snack quite a bit so think about some cheap healthy options to stock up on so you’re not tempted to grab the closest family bag of crisps you can find.

I know how tempting it can be to pick up the phone and order a dominos ‘Two For Tuesdays’ after a hard day’s work, but fight it! Cutting back on takeaways could save you up to £800 in a year and inches off your waist.
