Our thoughts on the tommee tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine ….

My sister swears by the tommee tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine and said it was a life saver when my nephew was a baby so as an expectant father I had high hopes that this bit of kit would make parenting a breeze. My first impressions were good, and after unpacking there didn’t seem to be too many part that needed assembling. The instruction booklet that was provided was really clear with straightforward directions and helpful pictures of what we needed to do. We did have a few problems fitting the filter (which removes impurities from the water) as it wasn’t immediately clear where it needed to go but once we’d got it installed we were ready to start the initial cleaning process.

tommee.jpegIt may be that we were overly concerned with getting things setup correctly but the cleaning process seemed to take quite a long time and I was starting to wonder if the Prep Machine was actually going to be any quicker than doing things the old fashioned way! However, once we’d read through the instructions it wasn’t too difficult and you’ll only need to actually clean the machine every three months or so when you change the filter.

With everything assembled and cleaned we were ready to tackle making up our first bottle. We ran into a problem straight away when it turned out that I’d added the formula too soon, apparently the water needed to go in before the power, but at least that gave us more bottles to test out in our review of the Complete Starter Kit. Grabbing a fresh bottle we were ready to try again. The Perfect Prep machine has an adjustable shelf to make sure it can accommodate any size of bottle so as your baby grows you can change the size of bottles that you’re making. After selecting the right bottle the machine dispenses a shot of hot water to kill any bacteria present, and then we added the formula (which dissolved really quickly in the hot water). We then replaced the bottle onto the shelf and the Perfect Prep machine added cooler water to ensure the milk is at body temperature. Overall I was really impressed with how quick the whole process was, from turning on the machine to having a hot bottle of milk in less than 2 minutes. Considering this is the first time I’ve made up a bottle of formula I think that’s pretty good going!

tommeetippee A few other points, the look and design was pretty sleek, it’s not going to take up too much room in your kitchen and it’s well designed for night feeds with clear buttons that light up making it easy to see what you’re doing. The water reservoir is a good size too meaning it should be pretty quick to use in a bottle emergency, just adding the right bottle and powder and the Perfect Prep machine will do the rest. The bottle when it came out was the perfect temperature so having this in your kitchen would mean a hungry baby would get fed fast and it’s really quiet too.

The Perfect Prep machine works with any brand of powdered milk formula (we used Cow & Gate First Milk Powder Formula – £8.49 in Asda ), and I can definitely see us getting a lot of use out of it once our baby arrives. In the Asda Baby & Toddler Event it’s been reduced in price from £119.98 down to £60!
