Are you saving for a wedding? Read my top tips on how to budget for your big day!

A dream wedding can often take years of planning and saving, but there are lots of little ways you can cut costs without having to make any huge sacrifices to your big day. Here are some of my top money saving tips to consider when planning your wedding.

–       Firstly, be realistic about what you can achieve and how much you can afford. Open a straightforward instant access savings account where you can put aside your savings each month.

–       Secondly, make a list of everything you need to spend money on and shop around for the best deals rather than buying the first things you see. Haggling on the price is always worth a shot too.

–       When looking for your dream dress, consider buying second hand. You can get beautiful top quality dresses for a fraction of the price, and after all, they’ve only been worn once often for only a couple of hours. The best sites for this are,www.sellmyweddingdress.com and www.ebay.co.uk. You could also consider renting a wedding dress from www.savvycinderella.co.uk, you can find some amazing bridesmaid dresses available to rent on there too, after all you do only wear them once!

–   Don’t dismiss the high street when shopping for your wedding dress. High Street doesn’t mean drab! Debenhams and British Home Stores for example have some amazing wedding collections for both you and your bridesmaids, with beautiful dresses from as little as £40.

–       Most limo services charge by the hour, so fewer stops can mean a smaller bill. If you’re having one limo for yourself and your bridesmaids, ask all of the girls to meet up at a central location (usually your home or a hotel). Have the guys do the same.

–   Hit the crafts store for do-it-yourself invitation and program kits. With a computer and some creativity, you can get inexpensive, one-of-a-kind results.

–   If you do decide to leave your invitations to the professionals, order thank-you notes when you order your invites, some stationers give bulk discounts and It’s worth trying to negotiate a good deal.

–   Hiring a professional make-up artist on your big day can be extremely expensive. However, if you go to a beauty counter, they will do your full face of make up for free, all you have to do is purchase one of the products they have used for touching up throughout the day. You’ll be able to afford plenty of practice sessions too! Alternatively, hire a trainee make-up artist, they are often just as good as the professionals!

–   Be ruthless with the head count. There more people you invite, the higher the cost is going to be since you’ll have to pay per head. You can always invite more to the night time affair.

–   You don’t have to get married on a Saturday in the height of summer to have a wonderful wedding. Choosing an off-peak date can save you a huge amount on your venue and all your other suppliers, and you’ll have more money to spend on other things, too.

–   All-inclusive package deals represent great value for money. They will include everything you need for around 50 to 70 day guests and more in the evening, leaving you free from worrying about how much cutlery you need!

–   Don’t leave bottles on the table. Let your servers pour the wine throughout the night so guests are more likely to drink only what they want. Leaving wine bottles on the table encourages diners to top off each other’s drinks even if they don’t plan on finishing their glasses.
