Travelling Advice For Turkey after Ankara Attack
Travel advice from the foreign office has changed after the recent car bomb attack in the Turkish capitalAnkara.
Many British travellers have been left concerned about their plans to travel to the country, so if you know anybody due to travel to Ankara or the surrounding areas please pass on this advice from the Foreign Office.
The Foreign Office has advised Britons travelling to Turkey to “avoid the area” around Ankara and the Turkish-Syria border in the wake of Sunday’s explosion.
Official warnings advise against all travel to within 10 km of the border with Syria and to the city of Diyarbakir and all but essential travel to Sirnak, Mardin, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Diyarbakir, Kilis and Hatay provinces, Siirt, Tunceli and Hakkari.
Around one million tourists fly to Turkey every year and the main tourists resorts are hundreds of miles away from the targeted area.
There have currently been no travel updates from individual travel companies such as Thomspon and Thomas Cook who all fly to the country but I will update this post as soon as I hear anything from them.
Travel expert Simon Calder said on Good Morning Britain this morning that if people are worried about upcoming trips to the country they should contact their tour operator to try to rearrange but warned that some travel companies may not allow change to be made to travel plans.
