Are you travelling to Egypt, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, or Syria any time soon?
The UK Foreign Office are urging tourists to be careful whilst visiting these countries, and in some instances are being recommended to cancel their trip.
We’ve broken the warnings down by country for you. Take a look below:
Egypt
Will you soon be jetting off to catch some rays in Egypt? The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all travel to the Governorate of North Sinai, except the area within the Sharm el Sheikh perimeter barrier, which includes the airport and the areas of Sharm el Maya, Hadaba, Naama Bay, Sharks Bay, and Nabq.
The FCO said: “Although most attacks occur in North Sinai, there is a risk of terrorist attacks across the country. Attacks could be indiscriminate, affecting Egyptian security forces, religious sites, large public gatherings, and places visited by foreigners.”
United Arab Emirates
Due to raised tensions within the United Arab Emirates, the FCO have released the following statement:
“There is a possibility of an increased threat against Western interests and the security situation could worsen with little warning. You should remain vigilant and keep up to date with the latest developments.”
Turkey
Do you know someone visiting Turkey soon? It might be worth letting them know about this! Within Turkey, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have specifically advised against travelling to areas within 10km of the Syrian border. The FCO have advised against all but essential travel to the following:
- All areas of Sirnak, Kilis, and Hatay provinces
- Provinces of Diyarbakir, Tunceli, and Hakkari
The FCO said: “Terrorists are very likely to carry out attacks in Turkey. Most attacks have taken place in the south east of the country.”
These travel warnings have been extended to both Syria and Iran too, with the FCO advising against all travel to both countries.
