Tunisia cancellation policy for British travellers

If you have a holiday booked in Tunisia over the next couple of weeks, then you should be offered a variety of different options from your tour operator.

Abta, the association of travel agents and tour operators has said: ‘The first priority is the welfare of holidaymakers in the hotels affected by this terrible incident. Holidaymakers elsewhere in Tunisia are advised to contact their tour operator and follow instructions issued by local authorities. Many of our members who have operations in Tunisia are offering customers the option to amend or cancel their bookings.”

As it stands Thomspon and First Choice customers will be able to cancel their holidays to Tunisia without any of the normal cancelation penalties or alternatively switch destination over the coming month. However, if your holiday is booked AFTER the 31st July, no refunds or options to switch destination will be offered unless the foreign office states it is unsafe to go there at that time.

EasyJet have released a statement saying: ‘“Customers have the option to choose a different route and/or a different date for free, or alternatively we will provide flight vouchers to the value of the unused flights if passengers prefer not to travel.”

Jet2 are allowing anyone travelling on or before July 24th to cancel their booking with no charges or pick a new destination. They have also promised to review the cut off date in line with advice from the Foreign Office. 

If you have a holiday booked to go to any of the other holiday destinations which have now been labelled by the British Government as ‘high-risk’, you will not have the option to cancel or request a refund unless it has been advised directly by the Foreign Embassy not to go there so it is advised  to double check policies with your travel agent before you go.
