The Voice Ratings Hit All Time Low

The Voice seems to be becoming less and less popular as the years go on, so it hardly came as a shock when I read that the ratings for last week’s final were at an all time low! I personally don’t watch The Voice, and haven’t spoke to anybody else lately who does. I watched the first ever series but I just don’t think it can ever compare to its rivals BGT and The X Factor! Am I the only one who thinks this?

An average audience of 6.3 million tuned in on Saturday night to see Stevie McCorie win the competition, but the jury’s out on whether or not the 29 year old fireman will break the curse of The Voice and actually make something out of his music career, rather than another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.

Where Are They Now?

Lets take a look back at the previous winners to get a better idea of what Scottish Stevie has to compete with.

Leanne Mitchell – Series One Winner

Sir Tom Jones won series one with his contestant Leanne Mitchell. You’d be forgiven for needing your memories refreshing, since her first single failed to rank any higher than at number 45 in the charts. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t come close to making a dent in the music industry and has since been dropped from her label and returned to her old job as a performer in a holiday camp. The very job she dreamed of leaving behind when she first auditioned ….. awkward.

Andrea Begley – Series Two Winner

Danny O’Donoghue won series two of the competition with his act, partially sighted Andrea Begley. Her album ‘Message’ charted at number seven in the album chart in 2013 which is a step up from series one winner Leanne. Andrea is still fortunate enough to have a record deal, however her second single ‘Dancing In The Dark’ only charted at 113.

Jermain Jackman – Series Three Winner

Will-I-Am won the third series of The Voice with his act Jermain Jackman, a young singer from Hackney. The 20 year olds single, a cover of’And I Am Telling You’ originally by Jennifer Hudson  only charted at number 75. Jermain has made lots of public appearances since his win in a bid to keep his profile up. However his debut album still only reached  number 42 in the charts.
